Marciniak made a few key decisions that impacted the game. He awarded Inter a penalty for a foul on Lautaro Martinez by Pau Cubarsi. He also overturned a penalty call for Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, ruling that he was fouled outside the box by Hakan Calhanoglu.
Barcelona were also unhappy with the equalizing goal scored by Inter, which they believed was the result of a foul by Denzel Dumfries on Barcelona's Gerard Martin in the lead-up to Francesco Acerbi's goal.
“This isn't the first time this has happened to us with this referee, and I think UEFA should look into it," Pedri said. "There were many situations where decisions went against us, and on the penalty on Lamine, he didn't give Mkhitaryan a yellow card, which would've been his second."
Barcelona defender Eric Garcia also commented on the game, saying, "I have come to Inter Milan's stadium three times, and things always seem to happen that are beyond our control. We all know what happened with this referee last time we came here. But it's no excuse, they scored six goals against us."
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick also expressed his disappointment in the post-match media conference, stating, "I don't want to talk too much about the referee, but every decision that was 50-50 went their way. I am disappointed, but not with my team. They tried everything. It's the way it is. We are out, but next year we will try again to make the fans happy."
